She is making friends
with our neighbors' new puppy (a Yorkie!) and letting him know who is boss since
he is a nipper! :) At first, she was submissive with him but then he pounced on
her one too many times and she got annoyed! It was hilarious to watch.
It seems that I have become the 'alpha dog' and Kaya just
goes crazy when I come home. In fact, Dave is a bit upset because she is not
anywhere near as excited when she greets him! That is the cat lover who is now
wrapped around Kaya's little paw!
Kaya had her last set of booster vaccinations on Thursday. She is now 11.3
pounds and is getting her permanent teeth. The one problem that the vet
discovered is that her baby canines on the upper jaw are not falling out while
the permanent canines are already breaking through. She has lots of chewtoys
and we have given her a pork bone in the last 2 weeks which should have helped
the process. He is concerned that there will be an issue with her bite and is
suggesting that we move up the date for her spaying so that the baby canines can
be extracted while she is under general anesthesia. Have you seen this with the
other dogs? Also, any cautions I should pass on to the vet about general
anesthesia or surgery in general with this breed?
Kaya now looks like a fox on stilts! Her legs have grown long and thin and
her coat is showing hints of reddish brown on the back flanks and behind her
ears. Her back and face have stopped getting darker and are actually getting a
bit grayer now. She is definitely a beauty and still gets lots of 'oohs' and
'ahhs' on walks. (Still no peace and lots of questions on walks). Grand Ave is
having their "Paws on Grand" tomorrow to raise money for the Humane Society and
we are going to join in on the doggie parade. I will let you know how that
goes! I am thinking of putting a fabric saddle on Kaya and writing something on
it. Might decrease the number of questions ?
Well, off to do errands before the whole day is gone.
Take care and I will be in touch soon. Have to download some pictures and
send them off to you soon.

UPDATE: We are doing great she sleeps at the top of our bed and she is having a ball trying to eat every thing in sight. Or should I say she is trying to chew everything in sight she is doing great and we love her.
When we get time we will take pictures of her and send them to you. tries to jump up in your lap to try a bite and she likes to chase you down the hall and nip at your heels or get you toes if you are sitting where she can get to them.
She likes to sit in your lap while we watch TV and she sleeps all night till the alarm goes of and she is up and running.
Well I have to go but will keep you informed on her progress. Thanks Jack
august update: Hi Lori she is doing great but is still kind of nervous around us my wife has the best relationship with her . We were wondering where you get her feed at and if we can get it online. Thanks Jack
Our special little sweet boy went to Michigan
Lori: Sorry for the delay in
replying, I don't read my e-mail everyday. Loki is doing great. He instantly
bonded to our 3 year old dog, Allie and now they are almost inseparable.
Wherever one is, you will find the other. They absolutely delight in tormenting
one of our cats. They both know the consequences so well that if I see them
take off after him I hardly have to open my mouth and they are both on the way
to their crate. But they will not stop chasing him! Oh yes, Allies crate now
belongs to both of them, and although I send them there as a punishment once in
awhile, I will also find them both in there curled up together sleeping at
times. That is if they are not on the couch in the living room or on one of the
beds. They pretty much rule the house.
We waited until August to have Loki neutered
because he had one undescended testicle and the vet thought it might come down.
It did not, so he had to have two incisions when he was neutered so the testicle
could be removed from his abdominal cavity. It didn't seem to bother him a bit
though, we had a devil of a time keeping him quiet for 10 days! He wanted to
run and play as soon as we brought him home the next day. Krista and I had to
spend the 10 days at our cottage with just Loki so he would not be around any of
our other animals. It would have been impossible to keep him quiet with the
other animals around.
There is one thing you should probably know.
Loki has allergies! He had a bad reaction to his vaccines. After we were home
about 2 hours his face started to swell up and it was all hard and lumpy
looking. This was not just a little bit it was a very significant amount of
swelling and of course I was worried that his tongue or throat would swell too.
I started calling the vet, of course it was after hours! They had a recording
that said we would get a call back in 10 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes, I
just put Loki and the kids in the car and headed to the clinic and kept
calling. By the time we got there the vet had gotten there also. He had to
give Loki a shot of Benadryl and Prednisone and said he rarely saw such
reactions to vaccines. A few weeks later he got stung by a bee on his left
flank. It did not take ten minutes for his face to start swelling. Fortunately
I was paying very close attention to him and I gave him benadryl immediately and
he was ok. Do his parents have any allergies? Maybe you should inform the
parents of his siblings. I now keep liquid benadryl in the house all the time
and have to be aware enough to inform anyone who treats Loki about the problem.
Prior to putting Loki asleep for his surgery the Vet gave Loki an Injection of
Benadry because of this and we are always attuned to watch him.
He is adorable. He weighs about 17-18 lbs I
think. Since he is almost 8 months old I think he is probably just about full
grown. I send you some pictures. Jill

Hi!!!
It has been so busy-but we definitely did
not mean to worry you!!!
Just got back from a cruise to Cozumel with 17 GIrl
Scouts (and most of their parents)......exhausing, but fun.
The boys are doing great.
Henry is really quite
proud of himself and I just keep praying for Jethro to get some confidence!
He's so submissive.............but I honestly haven't seen a more
JOYFUL animal than him.
